How it’s played
Head-to-head, hole by hole: each hole is its own contest, won, lost, or halved, and the match score is tracked in holes up ("2 UP thru 12"). Total strokes never matter — a blow-up hole costs exactly one hole. By default the match can end early once it's mathematically decided (the classic "5 & 3"); turn that off to play out all 18 with the final margin in holes.
Optional carryover turns halved holes into rollovers: a halved hole's value rides to the next hole's winner, so halves build pressure instead of disappearing. Net by default — handicap strokes fall on the stroke-index holes, with the difference taken off the higher player. The payout goes to the match winner per the payout settings.
